@Erik – – I’ll post the details shortly, but the brief answer is that yesterday evening was quite a successful/productive talk, largely because the people with Anger Management Issues who made last year’s event so exciting weren’t in attendance. Presumably they were watching the Lakers and/or burning cars downtown.

Well I joined the party on this site after the DJW and JP cage match.. but it was an entertaining hour reading through all those old comments sections. Personally I feel the AR series most definitely qualifies as hard sci-fi. So, how did the event go?

Great to see you’re going back and I’ll be interested to see what happens this time.

I think it’s almost hilarious how the definition of “hard sci-fi” seems to change depending on who you talk to. Funny thing is, the general definition that I think most use is still the same: “a category of science fiction characterized by an emphasis on scientific or technical detail, or on scientific accuracy, or on both which should try to be accurate, logical, credible and rigorous in its use of current scientific and technical knowledge about which technology, phenomena, scenarios and situations that are practically and/or theoretically possible.”

Sounds like the AR trilogy is “hard sci-fi” to me.
